The Pioneer State's Dispensary Landscape
Colorado's dispensary market is the most mature in the nation. With over a decade of legal recreational sales, the state has seen waves of expansion, consolidation, and closure. The number of recreational dispensaries actually increased from 652 to 689 between 2021 and 2025 — partly because municipalities like Colorado Springs opted in — but significant churn is masked by that topline number. Denver alone saw adult-use sales plummet 66% from peak, and major chains like LivWell, Native Roots, and Schwazze have been acquired, restructured, or collapsed.
Average flower prices in Colorado are among the lowest in the nation: approximately $3 per gram in 2026, compared to $10.61 in New York, $7.44 in Connecticut, and $6.11 in California. Budget eighths sell for as low as $8, and $80 ounces are commonplace.
